Not much on the time, dearest folks, but I have yet to be mugged.
Budapest is so awesome. I am having a most fantastic time, which I will elaborate upon at a later date. La!
Don't worry, mom. ::grin::
Kein Angst, fret not, mes amis, but I will be unreachable until Tuesday probably at the earliest because I'm leaving for Budapest sooner than planned.
Anna and I got a ride! She asked this guy she knows if he was going to go home to Budapest, and he wasn't, but his friend is. This may be the cheapest vacation ever. It may also involve me being in a car for 6 hours with slightly less than regularly bathed eastern european guys.
We'll probably chip in for gas, and then everything in Hungary is super cheap--i.e. no more than $10 a night for the hostel, wonderful humongous carby food... I'm really excited! But I also have class nearly non-stop today from 8:30 am until 7.... and we're leaving at 7:30! I'm already packed. Just taking my backpack...
Is Europe not amazing?
I'm hungry, and I'm about to go to a two hour dance class. Problem? Maybe.
I had day of math today, and despite me being totally totally confused about where I was supposed to be this afternoon (answer--not taking the test that my classmates were taking, thank god) I had a reasonable day. I hope they do proofs at least kind of like I turned them in for number theory... ::crosses fingers::
I'm going to Budapest for Easter break (ie Thurs thru Tues. Sweet!) and then to Straubing the next weekend to visit old friends from my high school exchange.
I can play and sing 'Picture' by Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow, and it sounds almost like a real song. I'm also learning Rufus' Hallelujah, but that's got a few tougher chord changes (quick F to G).
I bought a sketch pad. We'll see if that happens or not.
Writing this way reminds me that I need to buy a camera. Snapshots in color 'stead of snapshots in words...
Thing that seems odd to Americans: The cafeteria is called the Mensa.
Friday night we went out to the Irish Pub to be English speakers and have some beer. Then we went to Desperados (a 'Tex-Mex Cantina!') to have cheap margaritas. Lejla got really drunk and loud, but I feel as though we've bonded. This happens when you drink together.
Raimund randomly showed up at the pub and sat with us for a while. He's reeeeeally starting to creep me out.
Saturday we got up early and took the train to Ingolstadt (i.e. the nearest thing resembling a city). We went shopping and hung out for a little bit, then came back and got beautiful for a Palatschinken party thrown by the Hungarian girls. Palatschinken is traditional Hungarian food that's very similar to crepes. We had Hungarian wine, ate a lot of food... Trixi, one of our teachers from the intensive course we took, came with her 2-year-old. She was so cute! But we all ended up smudgy after holding her. Small price to pay. Anna broke out the guitar, and we sang a couple songs. We've got some things very nearly worked up. Hoot! My own foray into guitar playing is also going very well. Look out Nashville....
I spent a whole lot of time with Vincenzo this weekend... we hung out on Saturday night, he made me Mittagessen (Lunch, but it's the main meal) on Sunday... Yes, yes, he can also cook... Fish and pasta with an excellent pesto...
On Saturday, he asks me, "Becky, when are we going to get married?"
I tell him, "That's not the question."
"Yes, but when?"
"I don't know, ten years?"
He seemed satisfied.
Then he asked me ten minutes later, "When are we going to get married?"
"I thought we'd said 10 years."
"That's too long."
"5 years, then."
"All right. But we have to live in Italy."
