I´m in lovely München!

Kay and I left early this morning on the train for Munich... We got her tattoo taken care of, went shopping for clothes (soooo cute! so many deals!), secured some lodgings with some ´merry nuns´ in seedy downtown Munich, went to the Hofbräuhaus, and to a movie, and out for dinner. I would say it´s been a full day.

Tomorrow it´s to the museums we go, for they are free on sunday. Then for the rest of the week, I am locked in my room or chained to a computer working on my referat. THERE WILL BE NO TALKING!!!

oh, and yesterday at Agnieszka´s, I learned the Polish words to Hallelujah (y´know.... Leonard Cohen or Rufus Wainwright... whoever you like. Or Jeff someone, too.)

Exhausted, going to my comfy hostel bed.

Panic sets in! I discovered today that my referat is not in two weeks as previously assumed, but *next* week. A referat, for the unitiated, is an oral presentation over the topic of your semester paper. So, I have to give a 15-20 minute talk over Kurt Tucholsky's work, and how it is an example of anti-Semitic Judaism next week. In German. To German German majors. It's like giving a presentation in a college English class over English literature, except you don't speak English, actually.

Yesterday, as a holiday, was quite relaxing. I made french toast and cinnamon apples for breakfast for Kay and I, and John and Michael dropped by briefly... then Kay and I went on a walk/run up the mountain, and did yoga on the mountaintop (where it is meant to be done, I think). Then I took a nap. :) We went out for dinner and to the Irish Pub, and called it an early night. I tried to call America, but no one was home at 4 pm on a Tuesday afternoon.... and I was/am homesick, and needed people. Jerks. ::wink::

I got a very cute e-mail from mohamed, which just said, haiku like, this:

Becky
I miss you
come home
now
mohamed

Which is brilliant. I haven't heard anything about whether I'm TAing next fall yet, so I should ask.

I'm meeting Agnieszka in about an hour, then I should probably finish my math homework before I go to Munich so I can concentrate on my referat next week. Oh my crap. I have no idea what I've gotten myself into, here. But it's okay. In any case, I won't die, and I'll probably pass. That's enough, I guess.

Reminder: Tomorrow = holiday, i.e. no blog no e-mail. Hopefully on Friday I'll find a computer, and then this weekend Kay and I are going to Munich. Whooo!

I'm thinking about going to Lyon next weekend. I know, I know, it's French, but Robin lives there and he's practically British. So I think it might be okay. It's a 14 hour train ride, but I could study the whole time. (Ha!) It depends on the cost, I suppose. And whether he's too busy to show me around and speak to those nasty Frenchmen for me. ::wink::

Other things from earlier this week, about which I had forgotten.

I bought some All-Stars. Yeah, buddy.

Also, yesterday, in addition to meeting with Agnieszka, I tutored some 15 year old girls in English. I learned all sorts of tenses of english verbs I never knew the names of! For example, can you say a sentence using past perfect progressive? You sure can, but you may not realize you've done it. I'm gonna let you think about that.

ALSO, I realized that I speak really way excellent German, though my English is slipping. I am currently at the height of my German speaking ability. I used passive a few times yesterday, and that is pretty unusual and/or difficult for non-native speakers. I'm going to try to write a lot of poetry and things while I still can.

And it's time for wednesday coffee with kay. Later on, mis amigos.

Life is a whirlwind of activity!

Was the internet broken yesterday? 'Cuz it was here. But Eichstätt is small, and such things are easily broken.

Important things, important things....

Oh! I got the most fantabulous package ever to have been sent in the history of the postal service! I had all kinds of goodies therein.... A t-shirt, a rubber lobster, stickers, gum, postcards from Kansas... I must say, I have the best friends in the entire world. Allison sends me homemade postcards.... Other people get jack crap from the States. You guys rule.

We've started another blog, if you happen to read German. Anna, Kay and I are all writing--auf Deutsch--at http://eichstaetters.blogspot.com . It promises to be hilarious.

Was sonst?

We have another crazy freakin' German holiday tomorrow. I would be really excited about getting all these days off of class, but how am I ever going to learn to fence or speak Polish if we keep having Thursdays off? BUT... I can sing some songs in Polish (I was with Agnieszka again yesterday.) There's a life skill if ever I've seen one.

Fun weekend!

Friday night we walked up the mountain (6 Americans) hung out and watched the sun set over the valley and drank wine and ate pretzels. Then we went down to revel at the Irish Pub. It was a good night. Saturday we mostly chilled, then went to see 'Sweet Home Alabama' at KHG. It's a cute movie, but yet again we were shown the remarkable differences between our sense of humor and that of the Germans. Then we watched part of the Grand Prix (a European song contest if you're not familiar) and Lejla was really excited when Turkey won, because she lived in Turkey for a while (and Bosnia wasn't doing very well in the contest anyway).

Sunday we had to go to Ingolstadt so I could get my police report. We ate dinner at the Mexican place, and Anna's friend Shane who had been studying in Milan met us and came back to Eichstätt with us. I'm babysitting Shane right now!

I learned a new song on the guitar. I'm going to have to invest in one if I keep playing...

And that was pretty much everything. I really need to do some math homework (as usual).

Small sad thing: I think I've figured out I have to get a BA in Econ instead of a BS. I just can't take that many more classes... Ah, well. Grad school somewhere will take me, regardless. Ooh, I have to take the GRE as soon as I get home.

Next winter, when we're all 21, we're having a reunion in Memphis. Well, Kay and I are going to drive down, and Anna's going to drive up, and we can probably stay at the other Anna's place and all have a good ol' time. Hooray!

Right now I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do with myself for the last part of July. Kay's going to Ibiza with a friend of hers, Anna doesn't know what she's doing, and neither do I. Italy? The Spanish Islands? Poland? Germany? Ireland? Too many choices.
